In the Haunted Mansion as you come around a turn, there is the shadow of a hand coming down at you. Building "Disney-like" Haunted Mansion scary is really quite simple. All you need you can find at your local Home Depot or hardware store and around the neighborhood.
Note: Since this project uses electricity, young children should be monitored by adults when building this project.
Difficulty: Beginner hobbiest
cardboard about 12 in. long
slow RPM motor (10 rpm)
strong spot light
Extention cords, if light and motor are AC, otherwise battery packs
flat black paint - Optional
Start by taking the piece of cardboad and drawing a shape on it that looks like a hand -
make it about 4 inches tall by about 6 inches long. If you want, you can make two of them...one on each end of a 12 inch long piece of cardboard.
Cut the hand out.
Find the exact center by measuring in the appropriate distances from each end and mark it.
Make a hole at the center large enough for this to fit over the shaft of the motor.
You can paint the hand black if you want, but it wont help or spoil the effect any. - Optional
Now find a place where you can mount the motor with the "hand" and the light.
Remember that the light must shine on either the ground or a wall - preferrably in a hidden location.
The hand must be placed close to the light and mounted to the the hand can rotate along with the shaft.
You may have to experiment with distance between the light and the hand, and the light and the ground.
Now, mount the light and motor.
When the time comes, plug your light and motor in (or attach your battery pack) and enjoy!
