Lost Hidden Mickeys of

Disney continually updates its parks and attractions. Due to refurbishments, Hidden Mickeys are lost forever. When you notice that a Hidden Mickey was lost, please report it so that it can be remembered here.

This page is dedicated to those Hidden Mickeys lost forever in the parks and the Imagineers who created them. They may be lost in reality but they will live on in cyberspace.

IllumiNations 25

  1. A Hidden Mickey was programmed into the new IllumiNations 25 show at Epcot.
    REPORTED: Robert W. DiAddezio 16 OCT 96
This note is to confirm the presence of a Hidden Mickey in the night-time spectacular at Epcot. The show is divided into three acts:
    1. Act 1 - honors the countries and the guests representing them.
    2. Act 2 - Future World and the promise of discovery
    3. Act 3 - The Circle of Life honoring the way we all live together
In Act 3 there is a guitar solo about 30 seconds after the start of the song "Circle of Life". A fan scan created by the overhead, land based lasers is projected over the lagoon. After that scan goes away, three circles spin in from left, right, and above to meet and form a tri-circle Mickey head. It is best viewed from Showcase Plaza directly across from The American Adventure, however it is projected from all three land based lasers so can be seen around the lagoon.
CONFIRMED: Barton Wells 26 OCT 96
When standing in front of American Adventure at night you can look across the lagoon at Space Ship Earth and see that the colored lights shining on the side of the "Ball" form a Hidden Mickey.
CONFIRMED: Daniel Kierstead 16 JUN 97
I was watching Illuminations from Mexico, and almost to the end of it, when all the lasers are going nuts, I look towards France, and in the smoke, I can see a perfect Mickey being projected with the lasers. It only lasted about 5 seconds, but it was there.
CONFIRMED: Stephen Kelm 27 AUG 97
After viewing Illuminations at Epcot from the World Showcase, we noticed a Sorcerer's Mickey outlined in lights on the Big Spaceship Earth ball. After the show was over and the crowd was filing out of the park, we noticed it. It was not visible during the fireworks/laser show.
CONFIRMED: Mark and Jodi Rugg 23 JAN 98

Spaceship Earth

  1. As you leave the load area -- a constellation in the overhead star field.
    REPORTED: WDW List
I see the star Mickey in the loading area all the time; it's just as you start going up the opening incline.
CONFIRMED: david ruggeri 04 DEC 95
    CONFIRMED: eloi 16 AUG 96
The Hidden Mickey in the constellations at the start of the ride was taken out when the ride went in for rehab.
    LOST: anon 31 AUG 96
We couldn't find it; we thought we were just missing it.
LOST: Melanie Emmons 28 AUG 96
CONFIRMED: Paul Rinella 16 OCT 96
The hidden Mickey constellation at the top of Spaceship Earth is there, but it isn't the tri-circle Mickey. At the very top of the starfield Mickey appears in profile. If the starfield is turning, it must turn on a vertical axis, because Mickey is always at the top. Also, I am an astronomer and was unable to identify the constellations, so I doubt the starfield is astronomically correct.
CONFIRMED: Elizabeth Ferrara 14 JAN 97
  2. You will pass a part with the earth is picture on the wall (the earth is spinning, sometimes). Look at the earth, on the top there are stars that form the constellation of Mickey's ears, the earth is the head of Mickey. Good luck in finding this one, it's pretty tricky!
REPORTED: Lisa Mitrovic 09 JUN 98
Vortex...as you leave the load area, you could look up at the starfields and see a WDI intended Hidden Mickey among the star constellations. This was accidentally lost during the 1994 Rehab (refurbishment).
    LOST: anon 07 AUG 99
  3. There is a Mickey constellation in the stars at the very top. I rode 5 times in succession and only saw this once. The stars on the dome are revolving very slowly around a horizontal axis, so it may take a few rides to see it. I found it easier to see if I squinted at the patterns.
REPORTED: Graham Allan 06 SEP 93
I saw the Mickey constellation at the very top of the dome. It was kind of hazy, and I wasn't sure I found it, but a Cast Member told me that I wasn't dreaming.
    CONFIRMED: Kathy Nicklas-Varraso 22 MAY 94
I must question the Hidden Mickey in the planetarium at the top of the dome. The "star ball" was manufactured by an outside firm that designs planetariums and is licensed as "astronomically correct."
UPDATE: a Cast Member at Epcot 14 MAR 95
There seems to be some confusion between the small starfield in the loading area and the large starfield that fills the top of the geosphere. There was a tri-circle Mickey constellation in the load area, but it is no longer there. There is not now, nor ever was, a Mickey constellation at the top of the geosphere.
NOTE: TR Shaw 15 SEP 96
There are several star scenes. In one of the earlier ones which is on the right, the stars outline the top shape of Mickey's head as though he were peeking over the bottom. I rode through twice just to make sure I saw it and it is the top half of the Mickey icon (the two small circles and half the bigger one).
UPDATE: Crissy Beckner 01 JAN 98
The only starfield on the right is at the Phoenician scene. There is no Mickey in the stars. If it isn't this scene Crissy is talking about we apologize but we couldn't see any other stars on the right before the top.
WISHFUL THINKING: Jeff Carter & Kristy Miskoff 24 JAN 98
As you start going up, there are stars on the ceiling (before you hit the lightening screen) the stars make a perfecto hidden Mickey constilation.
CONFIRMED: Jessi Wooton 08 MAY 99
Vortex...as you leave the load area, you could look up at the starfields and see a WDI intended Hidden Mickey among the star constellations. This was accidentally lost during the 1994 Rehab (refurbishment).

Quoted from Walt Disney World Insider magazine..." As your vehicle ascends into Spaceship Earth, look for a constellation in the starfield overhead."
    CONFIRMED: Cheryl 04 SEP 99
  4. After the "Tomorrow's Child" section of the ride where the silhouettes of children are projected onto mirrors you will start to descend again, but this time inside a microchip. On your right will be three monitors that display scientific things like DNA etc. Now on the center monitor three yellow electrons will come together to form Mickey's head. You might have to go on the ride a few times before you see this.
    REPORTED: Tod 16 JUL 93
I rode five times in succession and didn't see this.
UPDATE: Graham Allan 06 JAN 94
I just got back from the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Spaceship Earth has been remodeled; Tomorrow's Child is no longer a part of it.
CONFIRMED: Clarke, Linda 21 APR 96
Return to Earth scene (retired in 94 - a hall of mirrors on descent)...above and right a small screen showing DNA and various constellations...one such constellation was the mouse ears shape.
    LOST: anon 07 AUG 99
  5. Earth Station (retired in 94 - now Global Neighborhood - soon Netropolis or version thereof)...multiple lights creating intended Mickies on carpet.
    LOST: anon 07 AUG 99
  6. Egyptian Hieretic Writing scene...the temple on right has authentic inscriptians... formerly included among them were R2D2 and C3PO on the wall behind the pylons...became a too popular item...was removed on purpose in 1994.

  1. The Get Set Jet Game at Backstage Magic is set on three circular platforms in the shape of Mickey.
REPORTED: unknown Yep (octagonal, rather than circular though).

Innoventions

The Disney Vision Labs has been closed indefinitely. These Hidden Mickeys have been lost forever except in cyberspace memories.

  1. In the new virtual reality show, Disney Vision, that just opened in Epcot, there is a sequence in the movie that when the driver looks at the magic carpet if he looks far enough you can see Mickey's gloves. It makes it look as if the pilot of the carpet was Mickey himself.
    REPORTED: Luguer 08 JUL 94
I flew on the magic carpet and can say that you do have Mickey's gloves instead of human hands. It was a great thrill on the carpet.
CONFIRMED: Anesa Vecciarelli 18 SEP 94
CONFIRMED: Graham Allan 02 OCT 94
If you look down at the carpet, you will see Mickey's gloves holding the sides of the carpet. These were confirmed by one of the imagineers that we talked to and are intentional references to the mouse.
    CONFIRMED: John C. Schinker 30 OCT 94
I would like to help confirm the Mickey hands in the carpet on the virtual reality ride Disney Vision. My wife and I went there on our honeymoon last summer, and I was one of the lucky folks who got to pilot the carpet.
    CONFIRMED: Joseph M. Scott 02 FEB 96
  2. There is one in Hammacher Schlemmer. As you enter, look up in the open cabinets in the top of the exhibit. In one of the cabinets are three blueprints rolled-up and stacked like The Mouse himself.

he one at Hammacher Schlemmer is now gone. One of the Cast Members from Disney Interactive told us that the exhibit has changed and it is now gone.
LOST: Susan Hochmayr 14 JUN 97
  3. At the Disney Vision show in Epcot, the magic carpet has a pattern on the front edge of black Mickeys alternating right-side-up and up-side-down. The black Mickeys are on a blue background.
    REPORTED: John C. Schinker 30 OCT 94

Centorium Gift Shop

Phsst: Fun Facts
  1. If you are sitting in the Electric Umbrella restaurant, sit to the right of the food concession area (this is as you are looking at the food lines), sit to the right of this area and get a seat near the window. Look out the window at the doors to the Centorium Shop. There are different colored circles on the automatic doors. Every time the door to the Centorium Shop opens, the circles will line up to form a classic Mickey. When the doors close, the Mickey is gone again.
REPORTED: Wayne Stoler 12 APR 96
I remember the colored circles on the sliding doors from past trips, but they have replaced them with the words "The Art of Disney" and the special Art of Disney Mickey logo to advertise the art/cels for sale on the second floor of the shop.

Epcot Discovery Center

  1. At the Epcot Discovery Center, go inside the doors and look to the right. There's a collection of shelves behind the cash register. The one furthest to the right has a big film reel with two smaller ones behind it, forming a Mickey.

Discovery Center the film reel that makes a Hidden Mickey is no longer there

Universe of Energy

The Universe of Energy was closed on 8 January 1996 for a much needed modernization. It reopened October 1996. These Hidden Mickeys have been lost forever except in cyberspace memories.

  1. There is a Hidden Mickey at Epcot in the Universe of Energy. It is not there all the time, but is there. In the first dino room, after the opening movie and being seated, as the storm starts and the lighting begins, Three spot lights come on forming Mickey's Head
REPORTED: Brian Hellhake 11 JUL 95
  2. Although I cannot confirm the Hidden Mickey in the dinosaur diorama, another Hidden Mickey in the Universe of Energy is in the film presented on three-screens in the second theatre (the film begins immediately after all six travelling theatre cars exit the diorama). Halfway through the film, a satellite equipped with two solar panels passes over the earth in the center screen. As the satellite cruises past the crest of the earth and into space, the satellite, silhouetted against the black backdrop of space, forms Mickey's head while the two solar panels form his ears.

Horizons closed on January 9, 1999.

  1. There is a scene where the divers are projected onto a screen, in an "undersea" view. On the rocks in front of the screen, middle left, there is a stone statue that is shaped like Mickey. It's a full body statue, and Mickey appears to be waving to the divers.
    REPORTED: Kathy Nicklas-Varraso 22 MAY 94
This must have been removed. I looked for it both on my home video and in the attraction. We even were stopped for a minute right at that spot. I couldn't find Mickey.

  5. The antenna near the racing dolphins in the "undersea" window in the indoor queue
    REPORTED: WDW List
  6. In the queue there are the moving murals that are surrounded by a mirrored border. Very often (but you have to be patient) the pattern formed by the mural moving behind the mirrored border and its reflection form a perfect Hidden Mickey. Don't know if this was planned, but it's very clear, so clear that it caught my eye as I walked by.
REPORTED: Gary Eckhardt 17 FEB 94
I watched each mural for a bit (there are three) and didn't see this. Any one else see it?

  7. In the 1920's view of the future, the bubbles in the bathtub form all kinds of Mickeys. This may be wishful thinking.
REPORTED: Julie Crutchley & Mary Glenn Crutchley 11 JUN 96
Sometimes bubbles are just bubbles. They are too small to be seen well, and no particular group stands out from the others.
WISHFUL THINKING: Melanie Emmons 28 AUG 96
  8. In the 1950's view of the future (it is all done in Neon), you can see a Hidden Mickey shape at the very top of the scene. It is supposed to be a little spacecraft moving across the scene, but it is in the shape of the three famous circles.
    REPORTED: anon 31 AUG 96

If you are there at the right time towards the right hand side of the screen an image of a Hidden Mickey will be there as a building shape in the city in space. You may have to ride a couple of times to see it.

Just after you "meet" the narrator and his wife (who is talking to the daughter on the hologram phone), in the next room, (which connects to the room they are in, and is really their terrace), in the background, there is a view of the city. World Of Motion

The World of Motion closed 8 January 1996 for a complete redo.

Note: Many props from the former World of Motion ride at Epcot are on display in the Studios prop room and the Boneyard. Among them are several characters as well as props from the recently renovated ride.

Phsst: Fun Facts

  1. In World of Motion, there is a lounge for GM employees. They can go there and get free cokes. It's on the top floor- and sometimes you can see the lights turned on it. I don't know what will happen to it as the renovations take place.
REPORTED: Missy Wigley 03 JUL 96
  2. Auto and air from the 30's to the present scene, checkout the child in the station wagon wearing Mickey Mouse Ears. decor
REPORTED: WDW List I believe this item and the next are the same Hidden Mickey - child wearing mouse ears in the car - but the Disney list one is wrong! There is a child wearing mouse ears, but it's not a kid in the station wagon. - it's the kid in the red car. (See next item in list)
NOTE: Dan Amrich 24 SEP 95

  5. In the scene where the turn of the century couple is going bike riding, the bicycle wheels form a Hidden Mickey where the man is stuck in the mud with the pigs and the woman is laughing at him. Right above the man's head the three bike wheels form a Mickey. This is more obvious, as you turn your head back while going into the next "room".
    REPORTED: Kathy Nicklas-Varraso 22 MAY 94
This appears to be wishful thinking too - my wife noted that the wheel that would be the head is smaller than the ear wheels. Believe it or not, I think this is supposed to be not a hidden Mickey, but in fact justthree bicycle wheels. Chalk it up to coincidence.
WISHFUL THINKING: Dan Amrich 24 SEP 95
  6. In the World of Motion, there is a transitional corridor between the invention of the wheel and the bicycle room. In this corridor there is a continuous projection of wheels of different sizes made on the wall and overhead as the ride car passes through. The projected wheels form the Mickey silhouette several times during the interlude.
REPORTED: Rob & Liz Lindsey 17 SEP 95
  7. It is in the scene where there is a crash between a horse drawn vehicle and a car. The Hidden Mickey is on the right hand side on top of the clock just before going to the next scene. There is an oblong circle in the middle and two circles for ears.
REPORTED: Russell Miliner 123 OCT 95
  8. In the World of Motion, in the scene where the men are showing the Egyptian king the invention of the wheel, the king is sitting on a dias (this is on the left of the ride). Behind the king is a wall, and on each side of him are designs. To the right of the king, toward the top of the designs, are two brown circles, and from those circles comes the outline of Mickey's side view... Mickey is looking up! Look for the two brown circles, they are fairly easy to spot, and that was how I found this Hidden Mickey. I can't believe I found one that hadn't been found...especially since the ride's going to be renovated next year!

Journey into Imagination

Listen to the Land

The ride is now know as Celebrating the Land. The ride, "Listen to the Land," was refurbished and reopened in 1994 as "Living with the Land." During the refurbishment these Mickeys were lost.

  1. In the "Living with the Land" boat ride (previously "Listen to the Land") the opening "leaf and vine" section is no longer there, so any Mickeys there have gone too. Also, the NASA laboratory at the end of the ride has gone, so the Mickey I reported there has gone too.
REPORTED: Graham Allan 06 JAN 94
In Listen to the Land, spot him in the beginning leaf and vine painting as the ride begins. Later, look for the three horseshoes above the barn in the farming scene. (unconfirmed) We missed both of these, and we were looking.
    REPORTED: Shawn M. Witzki 27 JUN 93
I did not, however, see the horseshoes. There is a single horseshoe directly above as you enter the barn, and a row of them off to the left just after the entrance (though it's real dark in there). It's possible that this one has been removed (it's on the official Epcot Outreach Hidden Mickeys list).
REPORTED: Graham Allan 06 JAN 94
There are lots and lots of different-sized circles painted on the walls behind the vines, and I picked out one definite Hidden Mickey on the right just as the boat has turned about 90 degrees from the loading dock. It's on the back wall about 6 feet up.
CONFIRMED: Graham Allan 03 SEP 93
We found numerous Mickey heads in the circle design in the loading area.
    CONFIRMED: Kathy Nicklas-Varraso 22 MAY 94
Just before the end of the ride there is a laboratory on the right (behind windows). On the table in the middle is a revolving circular dish full of test tubes. Most have white caps, but a number have green ones, and they make the familiar head with ears pattern. This may be a temporary one.
REPORTED: Graham Allan 06 SEP 93 In the "Living with the Land" boat ride (previously "Listen to the Land") the opening "leaf and vine" section is no longer there, so any Mickeys there have gone too.
REPORTED: Graham Allan 06 JAN 94

  1. In the tapestry hanging in the entrance to the Canadian restaurant, a Hidden Mickey in the form of a medal can be found in the lower right part of tapestry. The tapestry is just inside door on left. Definitely a Mickey head.
    REPORTED: anon 07 DEC 96
When you enter the doors to the Le Cellier Steakhouse there is a tapastry hanging on your left hand side by the doors. It is of men on horses. On one of the horses there is a rug type thing hanging over the horse (I believe it's the horse on your left, I think). This rug type thing has a hidden Mickey on it.

San Angela Inn Restaurante

  1. The nachos served at the San Angel Inn Restaurante are Mickey shaped.
REPORTED: Todd Janiak 12 MAY 97
The chips in the nachos are indeed shaped like Mickey's head. My wife only noticed this *after* she'd eaten a few ears off ;)

The nachos are no longer in the shape of Mickey!

The hidden Mickeys reported about the San Angel Inn's chips are correct. My wife and I went on our honeymoon in May of 1997 to Walt Disney World and noticed the "new" chips. We figured it was related to the 25th year celebration of Walt Disney World. Before and after we have never seen those chips again. We do visit at least three times a year. We also NEVER miss at least one meal at the San Angel Inn. One other thing on those 25th chips; they were more of a buttery and flour type chip as opposed to a corn based chip.

General

  1. If you go to the Discovery Outreach Center (the learning center) in Innoventions East, they will give you the WDW List of Hidden Mickeys, just ask for it.
    REPORTED: Donna & Lisa 26 JUN 97
It's true, the Discovery Center will give you the list. It's no where as complete as this page is though. They also have a whole lot of information available. Look through the binders and ask. Plus it's one of the few things in Disney that are still free.
CONFIRMED: Matthew DeMizio 05 AUG 97
The Discovery Outreach Center will be closed effective October 31, 1998
UPDATE: Melanie Emmons 25 SEP 98

Horizons Fun Facts

Epcot's World Of Motion

Note: Many props from the former World of Motion ride at Epcot are on display in the Studios prop room and the Boneyard. Among them are several characters as well as props from the recently renovated ride.

  1. The scene in World of Motion where the men were selling used chariots..think about who was selling them..Larry, Curly, and Moe!
    UPDATE: MrVoorhies 09 MAR 98
  2. The two people getting their picture taken by the airplane..well they're no other than Walt and Lilith Disney.
    UPDATE: MrVoorhies 09 MAR 98
  3. The woman holding the rope of the half-man\half-horse, look for her as the same bucked-tooth woman standing tied up in line in Pirates of the Caribbean waiting to be sold!
    UPDATE: MrVoorhies 09 MAR 98
  4. In the dark Riverboat scene, the man pulling the donkey is none other than former President Jimmy Carter.
    UPDATE: MrVoorhies 09 MAR 98
  5. In the scene where there are three men showing their ideas of the wheel to a King (the laughing King), the first man, with the Triangle Wheel I believe, is Richard Nixon.
    UPDATE: MrVoorhies 09 MAR 98
  6. During our last visit to WDW we noticed a small hidden tribute to Walt Disney. I have never seen it mentioned before. In World of Motion at Epcot, the sceen where the traffic jam occurs, there is a manhole with a person sticking his head out of the hole. Next to the hole is the cover. Printed on the cover is the name of the company that manufactured the man hole. That name is "Elias" Iron Works.
REPORTED: greg turpin 16 AUG 96
  7. During the ride, passengers travel through three large "movie screen rooms," where they are completely surrounded by film footage. The third screen contains computer graphics - the same ones used when Flynn entered and exited the computer world in Disney's film "TRON."
REPORTED: Dan Amrich 24 SEP 95
  8. It's not really a secret as much as an oversight by some imagineers: In Epcot's World of Motion, there is a large mock-up of the back half of a paddle boat. The left side of the boat is visible as you make a right-hand curve. You will notice that the paddle wheel is spinning clockwise, which would drive the boat backwards.
