  1. When Herc knocks over the constuction site when pulling the cart, you can not only spot Disney directors Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, but also veteran producer Don Hahn.
REPORTED: Misha 26 JUN 98 pict from hiddenmickeys.org
  2. Hercules flashes his "Grecian Express" card. Most people know that American Express is the "official" credit card of Walt Disney World and that the two companies have a close business relationship.
REPORTED: Melanie Emmons 15 JUN 97
  3. In the movie "Hercules" I believe that the island that Phil is living on is supposed to be the Island of Rhodes. I think this because there are bits of a large stature scattered about, (perhaps the Collasus of Rhodes after it fell down...)
    REPORTED: Alisa 13 OCT 00
  4. The book "the art of Hercules" states that there are seven Disney-related parodies in the film.
REPORTED: Wes Vernon 23 JUL 97
  5. In the scene where Hercules meets Zues (the statue) for the first time, they actually replay the scene from Mickey and the Bean Stalk - where Mickey runs throught the giant's fingers and then pops his head out - watch closely and keep your copy of Fun and Fantasy Free around for reference.
REPORTED: Jim Loring 19 JAN 98
  6. When young Hercules pulls the cart through the town's arch at the entrance, he almost knocks down two construction workers to the ground. These workers are animated versions of directors John Musker and Ron Clements, who also did their own voices, too!

  7. In the "Zero to Hero" sequence, Herc shoots an arrow or something, and it flies across the stars. The arrow- or whatever it was- flies under Marilyn Monroe's contellation, making her skirt fly up. She holds it down, as in a famous photograph of her. There are other images I think, but there wasn't time to see it all.
    REPORTED: anon 25 JUN 97
Marilyn made her cameo known and quite obvious. I believe the actual constellation was called Libra - a funny coincdence.
    CONFIRMED: Cirix 12 JUL 97
  8. In the movie "Hercules", during the song Zero to Hero, Hades sends three monsters at once to fight Herc, one of which is Medusa. In the myth, Hercules never fought Medusa, Perseus did. Phil even mentions Perseus as he goes through all his old student heroes, so shouldn't Medusa be decapitated or dead at least?
    REPORTED: anon 15 MAR 06
  9. When Hercules is crouching the "square" with pillars & roof, when you see the scene from above it's a map of the Magic Kingdom, Main Street, the Hub and the gates to the lands in the park.
REPORTED: Jonas Rudberg 28 AUG 98
  10. Song writer Alan Menken uses "the muses" as story pushers, however this is similar to his earlyer work "Little shop of Horrors" in with he uses "the ronnettes" to portrey the story. Both are used as cardboard cut-outs. not really belonging in the stories, but excisting in them to makr it clearer.

  11. In one part of the film where Meg and the muses are singing together, the muses appear as busts similar to the singing busts in the Haunted Mansion. The second one from the left is on its side, similar to ones in the Haunted Mansion.
REPORTED: Scott Tipple 26 JUN 97
In the movie the Gospel singers are singing from busts. These are the same busts that are found in the Haunted House at Disneyland. One of them is actually broken and laying on it's side, just like in the Haunted house.
CONFIRMED: Adam Chant 30 JUN 97
During the number where Meg sings, the muses are singing background music as statue heads. If you pay attention as the camera pans, the heads (or statues) are exactly the same as the Haunted Mansion singing heads. Even with one of them broken as in mansion!
CONFIRMED: Ryan Helsley 01 JUL 97
The muses do take on a resemblence to the singing busts in the Haunted Mansion at Disneylad (even down to the bust which is broken)
    CONFIRMED: Diamond 02 JUL 97
There is an interesting parallel between the five Muses in Hercules and the five singing busts in The Haunted Mansion. During Meg's song in Hercules, the Muses sing backup, at one point becoming a row of five busts. The fat one takes her place at second from the left, with her head removed from the shoulders. This is not unlike the arrangement of the singing busts in The Haunted Mansion. Their setup is identical to this, including a broken bust sitting second from the left.

Watch the Muses carefully in the scene in which they and Meg are singing "I Won't Say." At one point, busts of the Muses, with singing heads, are all lined up on a wall, and one of the Muses is holding her head under her arm. This echoes one of the tableux found in the Haunted Mansion ride at the Disney parks.

The Singing Busts are parodied in the movie Hercules while Megaera is singing "I Won't Say I'm in Love." The muses, who are advising her as background singers, pose as busts, and one is even broken!
CONFIRMED: Becky Richards 06 SEP 00
There is an allusion to the singing busts of the Haunted Mansion graveyard in the film Hercules. In the garden where Meg charms Herc, the muses are seen assuming the roles of statues...their positions precisely mimic the positions of the singing busts in the Mansion - even the broken bust!

  12. In the song "I won't say I'm in love" when Meg is saying "Get off my case!" the Muses say "Shutup, Shutup!"
REPORTED: Janelle Costantino 28 AUG 97
  13. In Hercules, when Meg finishes her song "I won't say", Hades appears between a sculpture. I don't know if it's a coincidence but, as the male statue (the sculpture is a couple dancing) melts, his face transforms into Sylvester Stallone's.

  16. When Phil and Hercules are talking, Phil says "you can't give up now" and when he says that, he pulls out a throw rug and it looks exactly like Scar from the Lion King. I guess Scar does make a "very handsome throw rug"!!
REPORTED: John & Melanie Emmons 15 JUN 97
While watching the Hercules Electrical Parade show on the Disney Channel called 'Hercules takes Manhattan', they showed a clip between Hercules and Phil in which Phil is holding a 'throw rug' of his. Seems Phil took Zazu's advice and made a throw rug of Scar after all!

When Hercules first gets to Thebes and the townspeople are complaining about the condition the town is in and Hercules and Phil overhear them, look behind them and you can see the bottom of a statue of Hercules fighting the lion that you also see on the vase in the very beginning when the muses take over telling the story and during the Zero to Hero song.

  21. There are 9 muses in Greek Mithology, but only 5 are shown in the movie: Thalia the muse of Comedy (the Fat one), Clio the Muse of History (Long Hair), Melpomene the muse of Drama (Shot Hair), Calliope the muse of Eloquence (Tall One) and Terpsichore the muse of the Dance (Curly Hair)

  22. From the 12 labours of Hercules these are ones that made into the film: the Killing of the Hydra, the killing (actually kicking) of the Lion of Nemea, the Boar, the capture of the deadly birds of the Estanfalo Lake, go down to the underworld and beat the three headed dog Cerebus, the cleaning of the king's stables and getting the amazon's girdle.

  25. The thunder desing on Zeus toga is absent during the first time we see his statue come to life, but it appeears on the second time around.
REPORTED: Jose Saucedo 13 JUL 97
  26. Only five of Herc's twelve labors get mentioned in the film. The four other labors that made it into the film are: the hydra, the giant boar, the king's stables, and stealing the queen of the amazons girdle.
    REPORTED: Gklew 01 JUL 97
  27. I believe that one of the singers, from the chorus is seen in Peter-Pan. The fat Singer looks very much like the fat Indian woman in Peter Pan, that tells Wendy to clean around, in the indian party. Does anyone else see it?

  28. There's a "The Hercules Store" - a poke at The Disney Store.
REPORTED: John & Melanie Emmons 28 NOV 96

  31. One of the evil entities looks a lot like Ursula from The Little Mermaid.
REPORTED: John & Melanie Emmons 28 NOV 96
At the beginning when the fates are telling Hades the future and they say you, Hades, will rule all, in their eye the image of Hades has one yellow and one white eye, just like Flotsam and Jetsam's eyes are when Ursala sees them in her bubble or whatever she was spying with in The Little Mermaid.
    UPDATE: Sam 17 JUN 02
  32. There are several parallels between Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. When Hercules first enters the Temple of Zeus, the chord structure in the music is not unlike that found at the end of "The Bells of Notre Dame" in Hunchback. Both Hercules and Quasimodo mourn the "deaths" of the leading ladies in a similar maner. The phrase "Three cheers for..." is used for both heroes at the end of the film.
    REPORTED: Jed 29 JUL 97
  33. There's a big, wild boar that looks like an overgrown, ferocious Pumbaa from The Lion King who is also seen being served up on a platter (similar to Pumbaa in Hunchback).
REPORTED: John & Melanie Emmons 28 NOV 96
  34. When Hercules went to find Phil, the goats looked a lot like Esmeralda's goat Djali from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I didn't see the telltale earring, but the animation was very similar.

  35. There's a shot of someone wearing Disney character shoes/sandals/sneakers.
REPORTED: John & Melanie Emmons 28 NOV 96
  36. In several of the Hercules commercials there is a scene with Pegasus and Hercules putting their hand (and hoof) prints into wet cement in front of the Mann Chinese Theater (it doesn't actually show the theater, but its implied). This is of course to show Herc's rise to stardom, but I gave it a little thought and realized a couple of things.
    REPORTED: Annie 07 OCT 97
There were a few posts referring to Hercules and Pegasus making imprints in the cement at the Chinese theater. If you look carefully you'll see that is says "To Sid" I think this is a reference to the Sid's movie memorabilia store that is located right inside the gate at Disney's MGM studios. I can't remember the correct name of the store.
REPORTED: Greg Reese 17 APR 00
  37. Disney MGM Studios has a full-size replica of the Mann Chinese (I believe it contains The Great Movie Ride). They ought to display a cement slab that supposedly has Herc's and Pegasus's prints.
  38. The real Mann Chinese has a cement slab which supposedly has the footprints of several Star Wars characters. MGM also has the Star Wars characters, but not at the Mann Chinese replica. Instead they're in their own attraction, Star Tours.
These are probably all coincidences, but...

  1. I have both the Hercules CD-rom and the Movie. If you don't touch any key while the CD-Rom's Start menu is running it will go into a demo stage. If you let this happen three times it will go into a video clip of the song "Zero to Hero". Halfway through the song you'll notice a change in the animation. In the movie Marilyn Munroe's dress flys up and she pushes it back down. But in the game Marilyn is replaced by Sebatian from The Little Mermaid. It is totally different from the film!
