  8. In the main entrance to the lobby between the outer and inner doors is a mural on the wall of a large creature. One of the spots on it is our friend Mickey.
REPORTED: Jeff Ambrous 30 APR 01
In entering the hotel there is an entry way prior to the electric doors, on either wall there is a lizard painting. On each there is one spot which looks Mickeyesque - especially from far away. The one on the right has the best one. The one on the left</> has a couple that might be close.

As we were finishing up the shields for installation just prior to the opening, the Disney lighting project Chief came to our assembly area. He looked over all four designs to find the "perfect" spot for hiding Mickey. The chosen site is now visible on one of the shields from the floor (even better from the third floor balcony) and does not detract from the decor! This shows the interest on the part of the Disney family to have fun with the guests. The 48 African shields form a colorful display in the lobby ceiling of the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

  11. I went to the Open House of the Animal Kingdom Lodge and found one. On the top of the large pillars in the lobby corners that extend from floor to ceiling there are three black circles in the form of Mickey's head. The black circles are the Mickey, there are brown ones on another pillars, but they are farther apart so they are not considered a Mickey, only the black ones. I asked one of the cast members if that was one and she said yes. I also confirmed this with my friend who works concierge there, who said that so far, he knows of only 4 Mickeys. There is a list of official Mickeys, but cast cannot see it yet, they have to find them on their own and then ask the managers to check the list to see if what they found is one.

Brown, red or black, they are all the same size
WISHFUL THINKING: Tom & Renée Shaw 04 MAY 01
I agree with the "wishful thinking" but apparently they are considered Hidden Mickeys by Disney.

  12. real hidden mickeyIn the Lobby of the Lodge, when you come in, you will see massive wood supports holding up the roof of the lodge. You want to go towards the supports on the right-hand side. If you go up to (I think it's the 2nd one) pillar and go to the reverse side (not the side facing the center of the lobby but the one facing the wall), you will see small logs roped to the big support logs. These logs are cut at an angle, so the Mickey is a little skewed, but if you stand on your tiptoes and look down at this...lo-and-behold there's Mickey.

  15. Stand outside of the lobby next to the rocks that overlook the savanah in the back, look back into the lobby area at the rock structure that's on the ground floor. The fork at the top of the African ladder that leans up against the rock make Mickey's eyes. The ears circle the two air vents in the rock, and there is a rough circle for the rest of the head. It's hard to see during the day. It shows up pretty well at night.

  16. real hidden mickeyI found a hidden Mickey (with castmembers help) in the "vines" covering the outside stairways. When you're on Arusha Rock looking into the lobby there are "vines" on either side of the window looking into the lobby. The one on the left has the hidden Mickey. Stand at the door closest to the vines that is coming out of the lobby. Behind the metal vines are large steel "braces" look at the one brace there is a large (long or up and down) open space. Look at the top of that space and a little to the left. You will see a profile of Mickey's head complete with ears and nose!
    REPORTED: Marshall 19 JUN 01
We found this hidden Mickey out the rear door of the main lobby (just out the door on your right) towards the fire pit which wwould be directly in front of you. There is a metal vine thingy going up a column. Its about half way up, but you really have to look hard.

Our room was on the fourth floor on Kudu Trail, the reason why I am telling you this is because the hidden mickey is on the rug in the hallway, and I didn't check to see if they have the same rug throughout the hotel. Anyway the rug is beige, but every so many feet they have a block of green, yellow, and red designs on the rug, the hidden mickey is in the pattern somewhere and is easiest to find on the red section. it is about the size of a quarter, but pretty simple to find if you take the time to look.

Mara

    Mara
  1. real hidden mickeyI spotted a Mickey in the Mara restaurant at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is part of the painted foliage next to an interior column (tree). The Mickey faces the entrance.
REPORTED: John Folsom 08 AUG 01
In The Mara at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, there are tree canopy type murals on the wall. As you enter the front door turn right and look up on the wall to the right side of the first tree trunk pillar. It appears as though the artist started having fun and painted what looks like a paw print on the bottom canopy piece, then looking up farther, there appears to be a Mickey as part of the top canopy blob.

  2. My family and I went to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Downstairs in the Mara cafeteria I was waiting for my parents to finish buying breakfast. I was bored and I looked at the Sponge painted ceiling. On the right of the cash registers I saw distinctly among random dots a walnut sized Mickey Head.

  3. The refillable cups you buy at The Mara have a tiny Mickey on them. If you hold the mug in your right hand, look at the foliage near the handle. There is a tiny yellow Mickey on a green leaf, just about in the middle (from top to bottom), not too far from the second "A" in "Mara." It is near where the green and yellow leaves meet.
REPORTED: Melanie Emmons 25 AUG 01
