Tomorrowland Transit Authority Fun Facts

  1. The people mover was built 1/5 its actual design size. It was tested at Disneyland and then supposed to be used in the City of Epcot (which was never built) to move people from the neighborhoods to the hub of the city where they would catch a monorail to go to work. 20% of the magnets can go down and it still function properly.

  2. When the People Mover approaches Space Mountain, the track splits off to the left. This is a storage area for People Mover cars.
REPORTED: Josh Verde 02 MAR 99
  3. When you enter the dark tunnel that contains the City Scape, look behind you when you are approx. 20 feet in the tunnel. You will see a camera with a faint red spotlight on it. This is an infrared security camera.
REPORTED: Josh Verde 02 MAR 99
  4. The original model of Epcot can be seen, on the left, behind a glass enclosure in the darkened tunnel when you go through Space Mountain. The model is about 10 feet deep and 20 feet long.
REPORTED: Jon Katz 26 APR 96
It is on display, but I believe it's now in the Alien Encounter area.
CONFIRMED: Melanie Emmons 29 AUG 96
Go to the Magic Kingdom and ride the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (formerly the WEDWAY Peoplemover). You'll pass a model of a futuristic city. This is an original concept model for a then-future EPCOT Center.

REPORTED: Patrick Keown 01 MAY 96
  6. After passing the Tommorrowland Theater there is a place where the East Parking lot can be seen. This is just before entering the tunnel for the Time Traveler.
REPORTED: Kenneth Klingensmith 30 DEC 96
From the TTA, you can see a parking lot on the left, just after the Tomorrowland Theatre.
    CONFIRMED: Anna K. 02 SEP 97
  7. Just to further the Tom Morrow story. Mr. Tom Morrow is paged during the Tomorrowland Transit Authority about 2/3 of the ways through the ride. He is also listed as giving a lecture in the ad type video which is shown in the first chamber of Alien Encounter before the initial video. I think that he may be the host of the celebrated "Mission to Mars: Fact or Fantasy" lecture, but I'm not sure on that one.
REPORTED: Loren Jones 18 MAR 98
Tom Morrow was actually the animatronic "operations director", for "Flight to the Moon" (1967-1975) in Disneyland. He, then, was transformed into Mr. Johnson when the attraction became Mission to Mars.

The name Tom Morrow is used at the Alien Encounter, but it has been used for many years on the WEDway People Mover attraction. Just as you leave the Carrousel of Progress, a female's voice comes on the speakers and pages Tom Morrow. For everyone in the park it is a name resembling the word which symbolizes Tomorrowland, for me, it is the name of an old friend, Tom Morrow.
UPDATE: Terry Sandford 29 NOV 98
Tom Morrow also made a brief on-line, name appearance in Star Tours in Disney/MGM Studios. AND...in Disneyland, in the brand-spankin' new Innoventions exhibit you can finally see old Tommy-boy, as you are greeted by an entusiasic Mr. Morrow in the animatronic flesh. He looks like a close relative of the Transportarium's TimeKeeper.
CONFIRMED: Joseph St. Angelo 13 FEB 99
In Star Tours, and other attractions, you hear about Tom Morrow. On the Disney Channel, there is a special little show called "Imaginear That" and the host is Tom Morrow 2.0!!!
    UPDATE: anon 16 JUL 01
  8. The Torrowland Transit Authority made its debut in a commercial when it was installed at Houston International Airport in 1981.
    REPORTED: anon 07 SEP 98
  9. People were tuning out the original soundtrack to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. After Tomorrowland's refurb, (and the People Mover's name change), the TTA played a busy, new-age jazz tune. It was soon changed to the futuristic harmonies you now listen to.
