Hollywood Boulevard's Main Plaza

The plaza and surrounding buildings in front of the Chinese Theater when viewed from above form a Hidden Mickey tilted at a 45° angle from north. The easiest way to see this is by turning your map upside down. It is easier to see on the older maps before the park expanded with the addition of Sunset Boulevard, but it is still visible. This Hidden Mickey has been confirmed on "Walt Disney World Inside Out" and can be easily seen on the original achitectural plans for the Studios. It can easily be seen from the air if you have access to a small plane or hot air balloon and it can even be seen from outer space! Don't have a plane or a space shuttle? It is sometimes shown on "Walt Disney World Inside Out" and can also be found on the WDW Explorer CD-ROM. If your staying at a Disney Resort, watch the Walt Disney World promo channel on your TV. After the parade segment and just before the commercial, a blimp view of the Disney/MGM is shown with everything blacked out except the Mickey.
Although it can be most easily seen in this arial photograph or on the map, look at the bottom center of the remotely sensed image from space.
Mickey's head is formed by the circular plaza in front of the Great Movie Ride. Mickey's right ear is made up of the lake that contains Min and Bill's Dockside Diner. His other ear is made up of a portion of the roof of the Brown Derby and continues around as a change in the brick coloring on the small plaza area next to Sunset Boulevard which contains the attraction status board. His nose is made up of the off center large round planter in the central plaza. His eyes are made of two darker concrete areas surrounded by hedges forming the eyebrows and part of the Great Movie Ride is his smile. Certainly, this is one of the largest, if not the largest, hidden Mickey. It is over 100 yards (100 meters) in diameter.

This hidden Mickey was destroyed for the 100 years of Magic celebration. They put a large sorcerer's hat over the face of this great Hidden Mickey
